Employer Bashing
No employee works in a perfect workplace nor has the perfect boss. In fact, we all have worked for someone or an organization that we have disapproved of. When sharing information about an employer or supervisor, steer the conversation into a positive arena, instead of one that dwells on the negative.
Don’t talk about what you dislike about your previous or current supervisor, but talk about what you like about them. If you truly think hard enough, you can always come up with at least two or three traits that you admire about your supervisor.
Employer bashing speaks a lot more about you then your employer. Any future employer will 1)wonder whether you will eventually say similar things about them, 2) determine that you lack the perception and maturity to form his/her own opinions, and 3) determine that you lack the political savvy to say the right thing at the right time.
Keep the complaining at home and come to your firefighter interview prepared to answer some of the tough questions that are going to be asked.
